1)) WHAT IS WEB ?

Definition - What does mean WEB ?

The Web is the common name for the World Wide Web, a subset of the Internet consisting of the pages that can be accessed by a Web browser. Many people assume that the Web is the same as the Internet, and use these terms interchangeably. However, the term Internet actually refers to the global network of servers that makes the information sharing that happens over the Web possible. So, although the Web does make up a large portion of the Internet, but they are not one and same.

-> Web pages are formatted in a language called Hypertext Markup Language (HTML). It this language that allows users to click through pages on the Web via links. The Web uses HTTP protocol to transmit data and share information. Browsers such as Internet Explorer, Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox are used to access Web documents, or Web pages, which are connected via links.

The Web is just one of the ways that information is shared over the Internet; others include email, instant messaging and File Transfer Protocol (FTP).

2)) SURFACE WEB

DEFINITION --The Surface Web (also called the Visible Web, Indexed Web, Indexable Web or Lightnet) is the portion of the World Wide Web that is readily available to the general public and searchable with standardweb search engines. It is the opposite of the deepweb.

Surface Web – Essentially the visible web, that is, the Web as is it is generally thought of: static websites (though many connect to Deep Web databases, such as Amazon.com). Example of Surface Web pages may include Google, Facebook, YouTube, the New York Times, and other websites. Iffat & Sami provide an adequate working definition of the Surface Web:

3)) DEEP WEB 

 

DEFINITION--The part of the world wide web that is not discoverable by means of stander search engines, including password-protected or dynamic pages and encrypted network.

 *Surface Web, sometimes called the invisible Web, is the large part of the Internet that is inaccessible to conventional search engines. Deep Web content includes email messages, chat messages, private content on social media sites, electronic bank statements, electronic health records (EHRs) and other content that is accessible over the Internet but is not crawled and indexed by search engines like Google, Yahoo, Bing or DuckDuckGo.

*The reasons for not indexing deep Web content are varied. It may be that the content is proprietary, in which case the content can only be accessed by approved visitors coming in through a virtual private network (VPN). Or the content may be commercial, in which case the content resides behind a member wall and can only be accessed by customers who have paid a fee. Or perhaps the content contains personal identifiable information (PII), in which case the content is protected by compliance regulations and can only be accessed through a portal site by individuals who have been granted access privileges. When mashups have been generated on the fly and components lack a permanent uniform resource location (URL), they also becomes part of the deep Web.

*It is not known how large the deep Web is, but many experts estimate that search engines crawland index less than 1% of all the content that can be accessed over the Internet. That part of the Internet which is crawled and indexed by search engines is sometimes referred to as the surface Web. The term "deep Web" was coined by BrightPlanet in a 2001 white paper entitled 'The Deep Web: Surfacing Hidden Value' and is often confused in the media with the term dark Web. Like deep Web content, dark Web content cannot be accessed by conventional search engines, but most often the reason is because the content is illegal.

4)) DARK WEB

DEFINITION-- The Dark Web is a collection of thousands of websites that use anonymity tools like Tor and I2P to hide their IP address. While it's most famously been used for black market drug sales and even child pornography, the Dark Web also enables anonymous whistleblowing and protects users from surveillance and censorship.

But when a news organization as reputable as 60 Minutes describes the Dark Web as “a vast, secret, cyber underworld” that accounts for “90% of the Internet,” it’s time for a refresher.

The Dark Web isn’t particularly vast, it’s not 90% percent of the Internet, and it’s not even particularly secret. In fact, the Dark Web is a collection of websites that are publicly visible, yet hide the IP addresses of the servers that run them. That means anyone can visit a Dark Web site, but it can be very difficult to figure out where they’re hosted—or by whom.
